British Summer School has been established as a new summer junior brand from 2021 by language and sports specialist Exsportise, offering English tuition and personal development learning.

From next summer, British Summer School will offer programmes for international students aged six-to-18 years old with the aim of helping students to become ‘future ready’ and to improve students “ability and confidence to communicate and operate in the 21st Century”.

Held at UK boarding schools, the five residential courses offered are separated by age group: creatives of the future (six-10); explorers of the future (eight-12); adventurers (10-14); academics (12-17); and leaders (15-18).

The British Summer School brand has been developed by Bram van Asselt , Managing Director of Exsportise , and Steve Wood , formerly of Bede’s Summer School.

“We have had an overwhelmingly positive initial response to British Summer School from both agents and parents,” said Steve, Managing Director of British Summer School . “Exsportise has established a reputation for very high-quality sport and English language teaching, and British Summer School will draw on this heritage and experience to provide a corresponding level of high-quality academic and personal development summer learning.”

A feature of British Summer School is the adoption of an overall syllabus across the five individual courses covering foundation, progression and completion stages, based on the idea that students will want to return and attend subsequent courses in the overall programme, building on their learning and experiences.

Another element is a ‘True Me’ programme, which the school said will help students to grow self-knowledge and self-confidence, respect diversity and develop authentic relationships.

Courses will combine either 17.5, 20 or 22.5 hours per week of English language and subject tuition with a range of sport and leisure activities - with a ProOptions choice of 10 hours per week of intensive coaching and tuition. Social and cultural activities, day trips and excursions are included in the package.

Steve said, “We are keeping course numbers relatively small so that we can provide a once-in-a lifetime experience to every student who comes on a British Summer School course. Obviously, we hope students will want to come back for more and progress through our overall syllabus, but that isn’t essential.”

A British Summer School Online option has also been developed to provide online or blended learning options.

“Between us, Bram and I have over 50 years’ experience of running premium-quality summer schools. We are really excited about the programme British Summer School will provide to our international students. We are British Council approved; have excellent public school partners; and outstanding teaching, coaching and specialist partners all in place. Whatever 2021 brings, we are ready for it.”

Exsportise has been operating camps since 1998 and offers programmes in a range of sports and activities, including football courses with Arsenal Football Development
