Accountabilities

Programme Design: Develop a creative and engaging schedule of sports, activities, and social events that offers variety, balance, and inspiration. The programme should reflect the standards and values of BSS’s marketing materials, engage students, and deliver a memorable social experience of exceptional quality.

Preparation and Session Planning: Ensure all Activities Leaders and Assistants use their preparation time effectively and produce detailed, well-thought-out session plans for every sport, activity and BSS experience event. Plans should take into account venue suitability, risk factors, timings, staffing levels, equipment needs, and logistics to guarantee sessions run smoothly and efficiently.

Staff Management: Provide confident and supportive leadership to the team of Activities Leaders and Assistants. Monitor performance through regular observations and constructive feedback, promote ongoing development through CPD sessions, and uphold professional standards across the team. Take part in staff discipline and performance management processes when necessary.

Pro-Options: Maintain regular contact with external providers to confirm that all sessions take place as planned, run smoothly, and meet the required standards of quality and organisation. Ensure every student attends their booked pro-option sessions, gaining opportunities to enhance their skills, build confidence, and develop their technique.

Trips and Excursions: Design and deliver exceptional off-site trips that align with the published Excursion Schedule. These should provide meaningful cultural, historical, and educational experiences while meeting all BSS’s policies and safety standards.

Transport: Manage all transport arrangements for excursions, pro-options and off-site trips, ensuring that vehicles are booked, confirmed, or cancelled as required to support smooth and timely operations.

Risk Assessments: Confirm that detailed risk assessments are in place and have been reviewed by all relevant staff. Where necessary, create or update assessments in collaboration with BSS’s health and safety coordinator to cover any new or unique activities.

Safety: Ensure all activities and excursions are conducted safely and in full compliance with BSS’s safety policies. Pay particular attention to supervision ratios, risk management, and the maintaining accurate registers.

Student Behaviour Management: Observe and manage student conduct, responding immediately to any bullying or aggressive behaviour. Promote a safe and inclusive community in which every student can feel confident, respected, and free to express themselves regardless of their background or beliefs.

Pastoral Support: Work with the Welfare team to share essential information and deliver consistent, high-quality welfare care. Monitor students’ well-being and behaviour, handling minor issues directly and escalating serious concerns to the Welfare Manager or Centre Manager.

Night-time Emergencies: Respond to any emergencies occurring during the night in the Boarding House, taking appropriate action to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Student Transfers (If required): To undertake student transfers courteously and efficiently, adhering to all timings and procedures to deliver a professional, high-quality welcome and departure service that ensures minimal waiting times and a positive first and last impression of the school

Social Media Photography & Video: Delegate a member of staff to be responsible for capturing high-quality footage of lessons, activities, evening entertainment, and excursions using British Summer School recording devices.

Centre Requirements: To help ensure that the centre is set up effectively and packed away as required by the Head Office team.

JOB ROLE:
Activities Manager

KEY PURPOSE OF JOB:
To oversee the smooth running of the activities and leisure programme, ensuring students have a varied and engaging programme, whilst managing a team of activities leaders in an effective and motivational way

REPORTING TO:
Centre Manager

HOURS:
Morning Shift; 08:30 am – 18:30 pm. Afternoon shift; 13:00 pm – 23:00 pm

The above shows the typical working hours. Staff will be scheduled across both weekdays and weekends. Weekend shifts may be longer to support excursions or transfers.

Hours will vary between centres and according to the needs of the Summer School.

SALARY:
£780.42 per week + 12.07% Holiday Pay Total weekly pay £874.62 (Including Holiday Pay)

Accommodation Deduction: An accommodation deduction of £74.62 will deducted for those staff that are residential.
