Accountabilities

Lesson Planning and Quality Assurance: Supervise the EFL Teachers during their preparation time and ensure that detailed lesson plans are produced. Plans should follow the BSS syllabus to deliver engaging lessons that build language skills, expand vocabulary, increase confidence and fluency. Make sure that each teacher submits their three best lesson plans of the week for your review.

Teaching and Classroom Delivery: When stepping in to teach, such as to cover staff absence, or the need for additional classes, prepare and deliver outstanding lessons that are inclusive, stimulating and fully delivered in English. Demonstrate best practice by modelling enthusiasm, maintaining excellent discipline, and fostering a supportive and dynamic classroom atmosphere where every student feels encouraged to learn, participate and progress. Based on your skills, experience, and qualifications, you may be assigned to teach the focus lessons in one of the courses listed below.

  • Explorers of the future: These practical lessons are designed to improve students’ English and develop their abilities to explore and understand the natural world or develop their creative skills and artistic talents. Students specialise in either Exploration or Creation each week of their course.

  • Adventurers of the future: these lessons are designed to improve students’ English and at the same time, stimulate their appetite for and sense of adventure, helping them to build their communication skills and self-confidence through a range of different practical outdoor activities. Lessons may include Bush Craft Activities, Erecting a tent, Orienteering.

  • Citizens of the future: Effective communication is key to success in the 21st century and developing core communication skills is an integral and crucial part of this course. These lessons are designed to help students develop the skills required to communicate more freely, naturally, and confidently in English in academic, recreational, and professional contexts.

  • Academics of the future: these lessons are designed to develop and expand knowledge and understanding of some key concepts and topics in one of five academic specialisms to help them prepare for future academic study. The specialisms available are Business, Engineering, Humanities, Maths, Science and Writing.

  • Artists of the future: these lessons are designed to improve students’ receptive and productive skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening), extend the scope and range of their vocabulary in both formal and informal contexts and deepen their understanding of grammar to improve spoken and written accuracy. The specialisms available are Art, Dance, Drama & Music

  • Professionals of the future: these lessons focus on developing students’ understanding and practical application of professional qualities and skills to enhance future employability. The specialisms available are Entrepreneurship, International Relations, Leadership, Media and Communications.

  • Champions of the future: These lessons are designed to develop and expand knowledge and understanding of some key elements that affect playing sport at an advanced level and competing such as, Anatomy & injury prevention, English for competitive sport, nutrition, & sports psychology.

Student Placement and Testing: Supervise the smooth running of weekly Placement Tests for newly arrived students to ensure accurate class placement. This helps maintain balanced groups where learners are appropriately challenged and positioned to make strong and steady progress in their English development.

Academic Administration and Record Management: Support the Director of Studies in maintaining efficient systems for managing all academic documentation, including lesson plans, teaching records and registers. These records must be complete, well-organised and easily accessible to demonstrate teaching quality, and ensure compliance with the accreditation standards that govern the Summer School.

Deputise for the DoS: in his or her absence, deputise for the DoS ensuring the academic aspect of the summer school runs smoothly and that overall quality of the teaching provision meets the high standards of BSS

Supervision & Pastoral Support: Oversee student behaviour around the campus, addressing any issues promptly to maintain a safe, respectful, and friendly living environment that reflects well on BSS. Pay close attention to students’ well-being, behaviour, and performance, raising any concerns with the Welfare Manager or Centre Manager to ensure their physical and emotional safety.

Behaviour Management: Observe, guide, and manage student conduct to nurture a positive and inclusive international community where every student feels valued, safe, and free to express themselves.

Wake-Up Duty: Assist the welfare team if needed by helping students start their day on time, offering a friendly and professional presence.

Health & Safety Compliance: Review and follow relevant risk assessments and safety procedures to always guarantee a secure environment for all staff & students.

Student Transfers: To undertake student transfers courteously and efficiently, adhering to all timings and procedures to deliver a professional, high-quality welcome and departure service that ensures minimal waiting times and a positive first and last impression of the school

Social Media Photography & Video: Under the direction of management holder is responsible for capturing high-quality footage of lessons using British Summer School recording devices.

Centre Requirements: To help ensure that the centre is set up effectively and packed away as required by the Head Office team.

JOB ROLE:
Senior EFL Teacher

KEY PURPOSE OF JOB:
To assist with DOS, to ensure all teachers are planning and delivering high-quality lessons to the expected standard i.e. lessons that motivate the class and have variety, pace and are challenging.

REPORTING TO:
Director of Studies

HOURS:
08:45 – 18:00 Monday - Friday Fridays will be a later finish due to the awards ceremony.

And a Saturday or Sunday 8 hours (Times may vary based on the needs of the school)

There will be an additional 2.5 hours split over the working week to assist with wake-up duties.

SALARY:
With a generous salary of £735.81 per week, plus 12.0% holiday pay.
Total Weekly pay £824.62 (Including Holiday Pay)

Accommodation Deduction : An accommodation deduction of £74.62 will deducted for those staff that are residential.
