Accountabilities
Lesson Planning: Design engaging, structured, and dynamic specialism lessons that align with the BSS’s syllabus, helping students expand their vocabulary, improve fluency, gain confidence and explore their chosen subject.
Teaching: Deliver 1 – 1.5 hours of lessons each weekday (5 – 7.5 contact hours per week) in an inclusive and encouraging way, using only the target language, to foster a positive classroom atmosphere where all students can learn, participate, and make meaningful progress.
The specialisms to deliver would be one of the following:
Engineering - increasing students’ academic and theoretical understanding of engineering principles. To let students experience studying Engineering “the UK way” and to enable students to participate in practical, hands-on projects, where appropriate. Subjects covered include Engineering fundamentals, innovation in design and practical applications.
Maths (Adapted from the Cambridge IGCSE maths curriculum) - increasing students’ academic and theoretical knowledge in some of the key maths topics. To let students experience studying maths “the UK way” and to enable students to participate in practical work where appropriate. Subjects covered include algebra, shape, probability and statistics.
Science (Adapted from the Cambridge IGCSE science curriculum) - increasing students’ academic and theoretical knowledge in some of the core science subjects. To let students experience studying science “the UK way” and to enable students to participate in practical, hands-on projects, where appropriate. Subjects covered include Biology, Chemistry and physics.
Sports Science - increasing students’ academic and theoretical knowledge in some of the core sport science subjects. To let students experience studying sports science “the UK way” and to enable students to participate in practical, hands-on projects, where appropriate. Subjects covered include Anatomy & injury prevention, English for competitive sport, nutrition, & sports psychology.
Footballers of the future (In partnership with Tottenham Hotspur) - deliver workshops that, are designed to improve and expand knowledge and understanding of some key elements that affect playing football at an advanced level and competing such as: Anatomy & Injury Prevention, Match Play Strategies, Nutrition, Personal Responsibility, Resilience, Sport Psychology, player development within the game environment.
Monitoring & Assessment: Ensure students are placed at the appropriate level and track their progress through regular checks and assessments, providing evidence of improvement via reports and helping each student reach their full potential.
Academic Administration: To complete administrative duties such as maintaining accurate lesson plans, class profiles, registers, making sure students complete their arrival and departure questionnaires and weekly logs of all work completed.
Supervision & Pastoral Support: Oversee student behaviour around the campus, addressing any issues promptly to maintain a safe, respectful, and friendly living environment that reflects well on BSS. Pay close attention to students’ well-being, behaviour, and performance, raising any concerns with the Welfare Manager or Centre Manager to ensure their physical and emotional safety.
Behaviour Management: Observe, guide, and manage student conduct to nurture a positive and inclusive international community where every student feels valued, safe, and free to express themselves.
Health & Safety Compliance: Review and follow relevant risk assessments and safety procedures to always guarantee a secure environment for all staff & students.
Student Transfers: To undertake student transfers courteously and efficiently, adhering to all timings and procedures to deliver a professional, high-quality welcome and departure service that ensures minimal waiting times and a positive first and last impression of the school
Social Media Photography & Video: Under the direction of management holder is responsible for capturing high-quality footage of lessons using British Summer School recording devices.

KEY PURPOSE OF JOB:
To prepare and deliver high-quality lessons to the expected standard, i.e. lessons that motivate the class and have variety, pace and are challenging. When you are not teaching you will either be in the Teaching, Activities or Welfare Team.
REPORTING TO:
Director of Studies, Welfare Manager, Activities Manager
HOURS:
Oundle – 08:45 – 12:30 Uppingham – 08:45 – 12:30 Above are typical Hours for the teaching part of this role but may vary. The remaining hours will vary to which centre you're at and the plus option you have been assigned to.
Staff will be scheduled across both weekdays and weekends. Weekend shifts may be longer to support excursions or transfers.
Hours will vary between centres and according to the needs of the Summer School.
SALARY:
With a generous salary of £713.50 per week, plus 12.0% holiday pay.
Total Weekly pay £799.62 (Including Holiday Pay)
Accommodation Deduction: An accommodation deduction of £74.62 will deducted for those staff that are residential.
