Employment FAQs

Do I need to complete the application form, or can I just send you my CV?
It is important for you to complete our online application form as we like to ensure we have as much relevant information on every employee.

Can I choose the school I want to work at?
When we offer a role to someone, it is based on a centre/programme.  We do ask and take into consideration people’s preferences but when we allocate staff, this is done based on your interview, experience and the needs and requirements of each centre.

Can I arrive before the induction date?
Unfortunately, we can’t offer any accommodation prior to the start of our induction.  Do contact the head office team who will be able to assist you with local places to stay.   The first day of our induction starts just after lunch to allow staff time to arrive at the venue.

Is accommodation provided and do I have to pay for this?
We provide accommodation to all staff members, free of charge.  Anyone staying in the accommodation will be required to abide by the house rules.  Houses are locked up and alarmed each night, so if staff are staying on-site, they are expected to be in the house before the house is alarmed.

Will you help with travel costs?
It will be down to each staff member to make their way to the induction venue.  Once at the induction venue, we will arrange transport to the centre you have been allocated to for the summer. Unfortunately, we do not help with the costs of flights, taxis or petrol.

How long do you offer contracts for?
This is dependent on the length of the school.  Our schools run between 5 and 7 weeks so we set our contracts in line with the school and student numbers.  Contract lengths can vary in length, occasionally subject to staff availability, we may offer shorter length contracts if needed by staff.

What day will I have off each week?
The rota for days off is created by the Centre Manager along with your line manager.  This day off may vary depending on the needs of the summer school.  Of course, if you have a special event such as a graduation or wedding to attend, we will always do our best to ensure that you can attend these.

Will I get a single room?
We never guarantee single rooms as this depends on the centres boarding facilities and student enrolments. The Welfare Manager will always do their best to ensure staff have single rooms given to them.

Are meals provided, and if so, will they cater for my dietary needs?
Yes, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and refreshments are provided free of charge. At weekends due to the excursions and trips, lunch will be a packed lunch.  All the kitchens at each centre are prepped in advance of staff and students’ dietary requirements and can cater for almost every diet.  If you have a special request, let the recruitment team know in advance and they will check with the kitchen.

Will I have access to Wi-Fi?
Yes, at all centres you will have access to Wi-Fi.  Staff will need to abide by the schools Wi-Fi Acceptable Use Policy

Can I use the sports facilities during my time off?
In most cases this is fine, and staff will be able to use the site facilities when not being used by the school and during permitted times, however, this will be dependent on the agreement between British Summer School and the host school.

When are we paid?
Salaries will be paid on the last Friday of every month to a UK bank account. If required, we can make payments to international accounts, although these may incur and bank transfer charge.
