Employment FAQs

Do I need to complete the application form, or can I just send you my CV?
Yes, it’s important that you complete our online application form. This ensures we have all the relevant information we need for every applicant and allows us to assess applications fairly and consistently.

Can I choose the centre I want to work at?
When you apply for a role with British Summer School, you are applying for a position rather than a specific school. Roles are allocated based on the needs of each centre or programme, taking into account your interview, experience, and stated preferences where possible.

Can I arrive before the induction date?
Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer accommodation prior to the start of induction. However, our Head Office team can provide guidance on local accommodation options. The first day of induction begins late morning to allow staff time to travel to the induction venue.

Is accommodation provided and do I have to pay for this?
Accommodation can be provided if required, and a deduction of £74.62 per week will be made from your salary. All accommodation is located on or near the school site, offering a convenient and comfortable base during your contract. Staff staying on-site are expected to follow the House Rules, which include maintaining a clean and respectful living environment and adhering to quiet hours.

What is the returners bonus? The Returners Bonus is a £100 flat-rate payment offered to staff who return to work with British Summer School for another season. It’s our way of saying thank you for your continued commitment and experience.

Will you help with travel costs?
Staff are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel to the induction venue. Once induction begins, we’ll provide transport to your allocated centre. Unfortunately, we’re unable to contribute to costs such as flights, taxis, or fuel.

How long do you offer contracts for? Contract lengths depend on the duration of the school, which are typically 5 to 6 weeks in length, so we set our contracts in line with the school and student numbers. In some cases, shorter contracts may be available depending on staff availability and centre needs.

What day will I have off each week?
Days off are arranged by the Centre Manager in consultation with your line manager. The day may vary based on the needs of the centre. If you have a special occasion (e.g. a wedding or graduation), please let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.

Will I get a single room?
Single rooms cannot be guaranteed, as this depends on each centre’s facilities and student numbers. However, the Welfare Manager will always try to allocate single rooms where possible. (Please note that Brambletye School is a pre-preparatory school, and accommodation there consists of shared dormitory-style rooms. Staff working at Brambletye will be expected to share a room with another member of staff in a similar role and working pattern).

Are meals provided, and if so, will they cater for my dietary needs?
Yes, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and refreshments are provided free of charge. On weekends, lunch is provided as a packed meal for excursions. Each kitchen is briefed on all dietary requirements in advance and can cater for most needs. Please inform the recruitment team of any specific dietary requests before arrival.

Will I have access to Wi-Fi?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available at all centres. Staff must follow the school’s Wi-Fi Acceptable Use Policy.

Can I use the school’s facilities during my time off?
In most cases, yes. Staff may use site facilities during permitted times when they’re not in use by the school. Availability depends on the agreement between British Summer School and the host school.

When are we paid?
Salaries are paid on the last Friday of each month to a UK bank account. Payments can also be made to international accounts, though these may incur a bank transfer fee.
